Frequently Asked Questions

General

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are often considered the β€œactive” components of essential oils. While plants will produce them to influence their external environments (e.g., attract pollinators, deter pests, etc.), many also have physiological benefits for humans.

Are Cannanda's terpenes from cannabis?

No, our terpenes are extracted from other botanical sources to ensure our products comply with Canada’s Industrial Hemp Regulations and Cannabis Act.

Are Cannanda's products legal?

All our products are 100% legal in Canada, US, UK, Australia, and any other territory that allows hemp seed oil. Our terpenes are sourced from non-cannabis botanical essential oils, and our hemp seed oil is cold-pressed from Canadian organic hemp seeds, which have been cleaned to remove traces of the hemp flower/bud.

Can children use your products?

Yes! Every ingredient we use has GRAS status (generally recognized as safe), which is a US-based food safety designation. This means that these ingredients can be added to food products without further regulatory approvalβ€”and food has no age restrictions. We create our blends intentionally avoid the use of more problematic terpenes (such as those in eucalyptus or rosemary essential oils), which make them off-limits for children. That said, we generally recommend our products for children 6+ years old.

Can I use more than one product at a time?

Yes! It’s absolutely safe, and we’ve created our blends to be safe (and effective) when used together. In the nutrition supplement world, this is called β€œstacking” and it’s a great way to enjoy the benefits of our terpene blends without worrying about negative interactions between products or thinking that you’re getting way too much or any particular terpene.

Why do you use "natural flavours" in your products? Social media health influencers are advising against natural flavours.

While SOME ingredients in SOME natural flavours might be a concern to some people, it's important to know that terpenes (the therapeutic compounds) in our products are regulated as "natural flavours" and the reason why you see them listed as such on our products.

The terpenes we use are not only super healthy and therapeutic, but they are also all GRAS status food ingredients (not all terpenes are), so a blanket/absolute statement to avoid "natural flavours" seems quite misleading and inaccurate. In the case of our products, people buy them specifically for the terpenes (a.k.a. "natural flavours")!

We agree that certain ingredients in "natural flavours" should be avoided if you are sensitive to them (e.g., MSG), but it's important to understand that avoiding MSG--in this example--does not mean you need to avoid all natural flavours.

Similarly, some natural flavours are processed using chemical solvents, which end up in the flavour and do not need to be disclosed. As the saying goes, don't let a few bad apples (e.g., questionable ingredients) spoil a bunch (the category of natural flavours).

It would be similar to "natural colours" where some, like titanium dioxide, should be avoided outright, but other compounds like curcumin, chlorophyll, and lycopene (another type of terpene) are highly beneficial.

All of Cannanda's "flavours" (whether the terpene blends themselves, or the flavours in our Sweet Ginger and Orange Creamsicle oils), are extracted by steam-distillation, which means there are no solvent residues to worry about.

So, the next time you hear a social medial health guru telling you to avoid natural flavours without giving context or specifics, just know that they might not understand the full picture or not have the time in a social post to explain the nuances needed for a more complete discussion on the topic.

Cannanda CB2

Will CB2 work for me?

Cannanda CB2 products have an estimated success rate of 60-70% (or 2 out of 3 will benefit), making this one of the most successful products on the market (by contrast, most products have a success rate of 30-50%).

Since the unique blend of terpenes in Cannanda CB2 works through activation of your body’s CB2 receptors, how much of a benefit you feel will depend on a number of factors related to your physiology. First, your body has to produce enough CB2 receptors in the area you are looking for relief. For example, if you sprained your ankle, your body would normally up-regulate the expression of CB2 receptors around your ankle, so that when you use these terpenes, you’ll find relief. If your body doesn’t adequately up-regulate CB2 receptors, there will not be enough receptors to activate so you won’t feel the benefits of the terpenes as much. BUT pay attention to other areas of your body... you might find that other aspects of your health are improved (those areas where CB2 receptors are present in sufficient quantities).Β

Second, the CB2 receptors’ conformation must be in the β€œopen” configuration. This allows the terpenes to activate CB2 receptors and transmit a signal into the cell. If, however, the receptors are in the β€œclosed” configuration, the terpenes might not be able to activate the receptors, or the signal might not be transmitted as it should.

If either of these factors are sub-optimal, the benefits you experience might be muted (although you might still get benefits to other areas of your body in unexpected ways).

Can I take CB2 daily for general health?

Absolutely! While CB2 is an excellent solution for many people (and pets) for specific reasons, it's also an amazing daily products to help keep you feeling your best.

Studies have shown that activation of CB2 receptors can keep your body operating optimally, and will not only help reduce the risk of disease and illness, but it can help reduce the severity of consequences (e.g., one study on strokes suggested using a CB2 receptor activator prior to a stroke might help reduce the area of damage, as well as reduce the resulting memory impairment).

Can I travel internationally with it?

Our concentrated terpene vials can be taken anywhere in the world as they are considered natural flavours or aromatherapy fragrances. CB2 Hemp Seed Oil, however, contains hemp seed oil, which may not be legal in various countries around the world. Check with local laws before travelling with hemp seed oil products.

Can I take Cannanda CB2 with medications?

Yes, when use in recommended amounts, you can take Cannanda CB2 with medications. Every ingredient used has GRAS status, which is a US-based food safety designation meaning that these ingredients are safe food ingredients.

That said, it’s important to keep your prescribing doctor informed so that they can make any adjustments to your medications as needed.

Can I use Cannanda CB2 or Dog-Ease CB2 with cats?

Unlike dogs, cats metabolize certain terpenes much slower, which can increase the likelihood they will build up in their body to undesirable levels. So the amounts given to cats should be much lower and for short periods only. We do NOT recommend using the concentrated terpene blend with cats, and CB2 Hemp Seed Oil is a suitable option with a max daily dosage of about 1-2 mL.

Are Cannanda’s products safe if I’m drug tested for banned substances?

YES! CB2 Wellness is completely safe if you are subjected to random drugs tests at work or for athletic events.

While many CBD products β€œshould” be safe, many have undeclared THC, which can result in a positive drug test for cannabis. We’ve heard quite a few stories like this, so don’t take the risk with CBD if you’re subjected to random drug tests!

What's the difference between Cannanda CB2 and CBD?

When compared to CBD, our CB2:

1) Directly activates CB2 receptors (CBD does NOT activate any cannabinoid receptor)

2) Has far better bioavailability (bioavailability is one of the main limiting factors for CBD)

3) Likely due to the two reasons above, has about a 60-70% success rate...or 2 out of every people will find it works (CBD's success rate is only about 33%, or 1 out of 3 find it works)

4) 100% GRAS status (Generally Recognized As Safe), making CB2 as safe to consume as food (CBD had its self-affirmed GRAS status revoked by the US FDA)

5) Just because an ingredient is GRAS, however, doesn't mean it's safe for dogs. We only use ingredients proven to be safe for humans AND dogs (CBD still has many gaps in knowledge on safety and toxicology--not just for humans, but especially for dogs).

6) Safe for anyone who is drug tested for work or athletic events (most CBD products have undisclosed THC, and even pure CBD, called CBD isolates, can breakdown over time into compounds that result in a positive test for banned substances).

7) Does not have adverse drug interactions (CBD has numerous known adverse drugs interactions, and can be dangerous for anyone taking certain medications)

8) Legal to travel with internationally (an important point as international travel starts to open up again--you cannot travel across international borders with CBD)

9) Far more affordable! (By a LOT!)

How long will it take to notice a benefit?

Some people notice a difference from their first serving or within the first day, while for others it may take up to 1 or 2 weeks of continuous use. The benefits might be immediately noticeable for some, while for others, it might be more subtle at first and gradually increase over time. If you are not seeing the desired effect, try increasing the amount and/or frequency of use.

How often can I use these terpene blends?

The terpene blends are made to be used "as needed" and can be repeated up to 3 or 4 times daily.

Hemp Seed Oil

What's the difference between CB2 Hemp Seed Oil and standard hemp seed oils?

Compared to regular hemp seed oil, our CB2 Hemp Seed Oil is:

1) Terpene-infused with our physician-formulated multi-award-winning Cannanda CB2 terpenes to activate your CB2 receptors.

2) Has world-leading stability, achieved through careful cultivar selection, processing, and a number of proprietary measures to ensure that our oil is fresh, and that you won’t be consuming rancid/oxidized oils

3) Uses glass bottles that are an impermeable barrier to oxygen and moisture (leading to better stability), and among the most recycled and recyclable materials.

4) Is an organic, cold-pressed, and raw oil from Canada, meaning our oil is free from pesticides and solvents.

5) Free from all Health Canada priority allergens.

6) And finally, our hemp seed oil raw material is Halal- and Kosher-certified.

What is SDA?

Considered an omega-3 fatty acid, SDA is an alternative non-fish, vegetarian source of omega-3s. When most think of vegetarian sources of omega-3s, ALA is what comes to mind. While ALA-rich foods often are recommended as an additional or alternative source of omega-3s for those who don’t or can’t consume fish, the conversion of ALA to longer long-chain fatty acids like EPA and DHA is inefficient.

The benefit of SDA is that its conversion is far more efficient, making SDA an important fatty acid for everyone, but especially vegetarians.

Unfortunately, dietary sources of SDA are limited, but hemp seeds are one of the best! Each tbs of Cannnada CB2 Hemp Seed Oil provides approximately 190 mg of SDA in addition to our multi-award-winning, doctor-formulated CB2 blend of terpenes that your CB2 receptors love.

What is GLA?

Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an β€œessential” fatty acid, which means that the body does not produce this fatty acid on its own and therefore must be consumed from the diet. Your body uses GLA to produce substances that support cardiovascular health (helps maintain cholesterol levels, and build HDLβ€”the β€œgood” cholesterol), and helps to make the myelin sheath that surrounds nerves (this is what’s damaged in Multiple Sclerosis). GLA supplements are often used to treat arthritis, ADHD, PMS, discomforts of menopause, MS, and liver cirrhosis.

Each tbs of Cannnada CB2 Hemp Seed Oil provides a high amount of GLA (approximately 480 mg) in addition to our multi-award-winning, doctor-formulated CB2 blend of terpenes that activate your CB2 receptors.

Is hemp seed oil actually healthy? I heard on social media that I should avoid "seed oils."

Seed oils, in and of themselves, are not an issue. The problem is industrially processed seed oils. For example, if you follow canola oil through its lifecycle, its extraction from the seeds make it gummy, so it's de-gummed with hexane, a neurotoxin that remains in the oil. In trying to remove some of the hexane, the oil is then heated to high temperatures. This causes the oil to oxidize and go rancid, which smells...well, rancid! So it goes through a deodorizing process using sodium hydroxide, a carcinogen. Then it's bleached to make it look pretty when in a clear plastic bottle on the shelf, where chemicals like BPA from the plastic leach into the oil, as well as oxygen allowed to transmit through the bottle further oxidizing the oils.

So it's really HOW a seed oil is processed that determines whether it's healthy or toxic.

Cannanda's hemp seed oil is cold pressed and micron filtered (both physical processes, not chemical). It's a raw oil that retains all its healthy components, and packaged into amber glass bottles that protects the nutritious oil from light and oxygen transfer.

Our real time stability tests at room temperature show that an unopened bottle has negligible oxidation after two years! The oil is free from solvents and processing aids like hexane and sodium hydroxide, and is just as fresh when you crack the seal as the day it was bottled.

Dog-Ease

Is Dog-Ease CB2 safe for cats?

Unlike dogs and humans, cats metabolize certain terpenes much slower, which can increase the likelihood they will build up in their body to undesirable levels. So amounts given to cats should be much lower.

For Dog-Ease Hemp Seed Oil, we recommend just 1 mL per day, while for the Dog-Ease terpene blend we suggest you only use a few drops in an aromatherapy diffuser placed near your cat. Any use in cats should be limited to short-term use only.

Can horses also use Dog-Ease CB2 Hemp Seed Oil?

Yes, for sure! Horse owners often reach for a jug of vegetable oil when wanting to bump up energy consumption for weight gain or wish to add shine to a coat. Others look to Essential Fatty Acid products for the same reasons humans use EFAsβ€”cardiovascular health, pain and inflammation, brain development, etc.Β

Dog-Ease CB2 offers all the above with an amazing EFA profile (providing a unique omega-3 called SDA) and added terpenes to help balance a horse’s Endocannabinoid System to bring relief to things like pain and anxiety.

Dosing is the same as what the label says for dogs, which is 1 tsp (5mL) for every 25 lbs of body weight (this won’t be enough oil if the goal is weight gain, so top up daily calorie consumption with any other healthy oil).

As with all new feedstuffs, horses should be slowly acclimated to the oil, starting with a quarter to a third of the daily dose, and then increasing slowly from there.Β A slower introduction schedule allows the horse’s gastrointestinal tract to adapt to the fat, which will reduce the likelihood of soft manure, a typical, though usually transient, effect of using any oil in general.

What's the difference between CB2 and CBD?

When compared to CBD, our CB2:

1) Directly activates CB2 receptors (CBD does NOT activate any cannabinoid receptor)

2) Has far better bioavailability (bioavailability is one of the main limiting factors for CBD)

7) Legal to travel with internationally (an important point as international travel starts to open up again--you cannot travel across international borders with CBD if you're travelling with your dog and need to bring pain or anxiety relief with you)

8) Far more affordable! (By a LOT!)

SESH Intention Spray

If I spray Sesh in the air, will it harm my cat or tiny dog?

No, it shouldn't (as long as you're not saturating the air all day, every day with a thick plume of Sesh).

However, Sesh comes in a base of ethanol so definitely do not spray close to your pets where the mist might make contact with mucous membranes (nose, eyes) before it gets a chance to evaporate.

Can I use Sesh to hide the smell of cannabis smoke?

Sesh can be used in any situation where other room sprays or air fresheners are used. This includes covering up the smell of cannabis smoke, as a bathroom spray, a great non-combustion alternative to incense, and a non-toxic alternative to plug-ins and other products made from harmful chemicals.

Can I use Sesh as a hand sanitizer?

Since the product is 75% ethanol, its alcohol concentration is equal to or greater than many common disinfectants.

In a pinch, Sesh can be used to disinfect small areas (e.g., door handles, etc.); however, this is a very expensive way to use Sesh. From a cost perspective, we suggest you use a cheaper alternative.

Can I use Sesh as a perfume or cologne?

Yes, absolutely! Sesh's unique and invigorating scent makes for a perfect personal scent that will remind you to think positive intents throughout the day.

Sesh is also a great value for a body scent, with a fragrance concentration of 25%! Perfumes and colognes, on the other hand, are much more dilute, with perfumes being 15-20% and colognes being only 2-4% fragrance.

Please note that we do NOT use toxic fixatives like phthalates. This means our scent does not last for hours like synthetic scents do. To make the scent last longer, be sure to apply to freshly moisturized skin, or reapply frequently as needed.
